How to Prepare for a Car Trip: Top Rules Beginners Should Know

A road trip is the best thing that can happen to your life, but only if you are well prepared. You yourself understand that a road adventure can give you not only joy and a lot of vivid impressions but also a lot of problems. Today we will try to remove all possible negativity from such a trip to make it perfect. So, let’s begin our preparations.

Take Everything You Need to Repair Your Car on the Road

Drivers aren’t immune to breakdowns on the road – and if in the city, it isn’t so critical, then in the middle of an empty highway, it can be a big problem. That’s why you should check your spare tire, have a tire repair kit and a special canister that will help you patch a punctured tire and get to the nearest tire repair shop.

Of course, you have to have rope and a spare fluorescent lamp – if they burn out, it will be hard to find them “in the field”. Take a standard tool kit in case of repair, including a knife. And get a flashlight: not only as a means of lighting but also as a way to warn other drivers about stopping on the highway.

Think of a Backup Phone

Experts advise you to take a spare phone with a SIM-card of another operator. Its battery lasts a long time and will come in handy if your main smartphone runs out. You can even take an old-fashioned phone with no access to the Internet and the ability to play at the Bobs casino or chat on Facebook. And a spare SIM card can come in handy in places where your operator’s card doesn’t get reception.

By the way, for the same reason, it’s better to take a navigator with pre-installed maps, rather than one that downloads maps online. If the connection is lost, the driver risks to remain without a navigator at all.

Don’t Forget Water and Snacks

Every road trip is built around the driver, and passengers should cater to his needs as much as possible. For example, giving him water when he’s thirsty, or entertaining him with music or conversation to keep him awake. And passengers should also provide the driver with a light snack if he needs one on the road.

Few people know that driving actually takes up a lot of calories because the brain works intensely on the road and requires easily digestible carbs. Therefore, the driver must have water and some light snacks. And as for drinking, pure water is the optimal solution, rather than any soda or energy drinks.

As for a snack on the road, use chocolate candies with nuts to get energized quickly. The fact is that fatigue in the driver (unless, of course, he spent 20 hours on the road) often occurs because the brain doesn’t have enough energy. And if you eat some easily digestible carbs, the reserve will be replenished and fatigue will go away.

Install Protection

When you drive on the highway at high speed, then there is always a risk of scratching your car. What to do? Install a few simple but effective upgrades: protection on the rear bumper, protection on the front bumper, protection on the sills. All you need to do to protect your car from scratches, chips, and other damage. And not only at speed, but, let’s say, while unloading the trunk.

Arrange Your Luggage Space

A common problem on road trips is a lack of room for luggage. And you never know what will come in handy. But we are convinced that the cabin of the car is hardly enough to take everything you need. After all, it’s better to prepare properly: take all the things you need (medicine, tent, ax), take all sorts of gadgets (laptops, phones), take food, etc. In short, the more you take, the less you have to worry about forgetting something. Roof rack solves this problem.
